All sessions are held at the NewHolly Branch. The classes are grouped into four series. Additional information about the different series and individual classes can be found on the AWS Skills Center website, including options to attend classes virtually.

If you wish to pursue multiple AWS Skills Training opportunities, please sign up for an AWS Skills Center account to receive credit for the classes you complete on your AWS Skills Transcript. AWS Cloud Career ‘Discovery’ Series

Get a brief overview of in-demand job roles and skills, with time to ask questions. Anyone curious about cloud technology or new career opportunities is encouraged to attend. Join for the topics that interest you, in any order. No prior knowledge of computers is needed. Classes in this series include:

  • Introduction to the AWS Cloud
  • Job Roles in the Cloud
  • Building a Cloud Career
  • Why Get AWS Certified
  • Demystifying Generative AI (Artificial Intelligence)

Computer Foundations Training Series

Gain foundational knowledge about the hardware used in personal and business computers; network hardware and protocols; security and the measures that should be taken to protect systems; storage options; and databases. It is recommended (but not required) to take classes in order. Classes in this series include:

  • Computer Foundations Part 1: Computer and Network Hardware
  • Computer Foundations Part 2: Security
  • Computer Foundations Part 3: Storage and Databases
  • Computer Foundations Part 4: Networking

Becoming an Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud Practitioner Skills Training Series

Through a combination of lectures and hands-on-labs, you’ll learn key concepts about the AWS cloud and how to apply them. These classes cover everything from different computing options, to strategies for improving reliability and performance, to deep dives into key AWS services and capabilities. Classes in this series include:

  • Becoming a Cloud Practitioner Class 1: Cloud Basics
  • Becoming a Cloud Practitioner Class 2: Computer, Networking and Account Strategies
  • Becoming a Cloud Practitioner Class 3: Identities, Security, and Monitoring the AWS Cloud
  • Becoming a Cloud Practitioner Class 4: Advanced Cloud Services

Preparing for the AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification

The AWS Cloud Practitioner certification validates your knowledge of AWS cloud computing and its services, and can boost your career prospects and earning potential. We offer a lab and exam prep session to help prepare yourself to pass the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) exam. Sessions in this series include:

  • Becoming a Cloud Practitioner Lab Session
  • Exam Prep - AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02)

Certification Voucher for Seattle Residents

Seattle residents who submit the following demonstrating their preparedness for the AWS Cloud Practitioner Foundations certification exam may be able to receive a free voucher to take the AWS Cloud Practitioner certification exam (CLF-C02). 

  • Seattle Public Library cardholder or provide proof of Seattle residency.
  • Earn the AWS Skills Center - Cloud Practitioner: Foundations badge issued by Credly; verified by link to test candidate’s online badge – note it may take 24 hours after passing the quiz for you to receive the email from Credly with instructions for claiming your digital badge). The name on the digital badge must match the name on the library card account or your proof of Seattle residency.
  • Passing score (at least 80%) on an AWS Skills Center - Cloud Practitioner: Foundations exam practice test verified by providing a screenshot of the score shown in the test candidate’s AWS Skill Builder account.

Priority will be given to Seattle residents who have attended at least one ‘Becoming an AWS Cloud Practitioner’ class at a Seattle Public Library location and who fulfill the qualification requirements with documentation submitted via email by July 31, 2025. 

Any remaining vouchers will be distributed in August on a first come first served basis to Seattle residents who meet the qualification requirements and submit their documentation, in the order the documentation was received. 

For more information, please send an email to ynjob@spl.org with “AWS Cloud Practitioner exam voucher opportunity” in the subject line. Please include your name and Seattle Public Library card number in the body of the email, and required documentation described above. Your Library card number helps confirm Seattle residency, and eligibility for the voucher. Passing scores on the final quiz and exam practice test demonstrate your preparedness to pass the certification exam. 

You can apply for a Library card at any of our locations or apply for one online. If for some reason you are unable to get a Seattle Public Library card, please let us know in the email and include a phone number where we can contact you.
