Changes to Citizenship Test in 2025

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has released the 2025 Citizenship Test.

This new version of the test will be administered to anyone who files Form N-400, Application for Naturalization on or after October 20, 2025.

There are a few notable changes between the 2025 test and the 2008 test (for those who applied before October 20th). These include:

  • The number of civics questions increases to 128.
  • Applicants will be asked 20 questions during the interview, compared to 10 on the 2008 version.
  • You must answer at least 12 questions correctly (60%) to pass.
  • The questions will still be asked orally by a USCIS officer, and no multiple-choice format will be used.

Printed study materials are not currently available for the new 2025 test, but we will have them soon. You can find questions and answers from the new test on the USCIS website.

If you are studying for the 2008 version of the test, we have printed study materials at all of our locations.
