Barefoot in the Park
Mr. Simon evidently has no aspirations except to be diverting, and he achieves those with the dash of a highly skilled professional writer. His modest plot is nearly always ready with a surprise turn, and his lines, while they crackle as unexpectedly as in 'Come Blow Your Horn,' are not often simply wisecracks here but natural to character and situation. Simon says that a memoir should serve two functions: "to pass on as much as you're willing to tell" and "to discover a truth about yourself you never had the time or courage to face before." A superb and introspective raconteur, he achieves both goals many times over in this exhilarating book. (Publishers Weekly)
