Celebrate The Seattle Public Library’s Summer of Learning with A Free Day at The Burke Museum on Sunday, Aug. 28

Children, teens, families and caregivers who participated in The Seattle Public Library’s Superhero Summer of Learning program are invited to a FREE end-of-summer celebration at the Burke Museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28.
Explore the Burke’s exhibits and collections – including dinosaurs, fossils, Northwest Native art, plant and animal collections, and cultural pieces from across the globe – and enjoy these special Summer of Learning activities:
- Dress up in your best superhero costume for the Superhero Selfie Station
- Hear the story “How Mouse Moved the Mountain,” by Tulalip artist and storyteller Ty Juvinel
- Create puppets and act out their superpowers in the puppet theater
- Make Ethiopian clay pinch pots with Daniel Kebede
- Enjoy crafts and activities with Hindi Time Kids
- Listen to Haida language warrior, artist and author Sondra Segundo share her latest work
- Enjoy superhero activities with South End Stories
- Learn more about the Library and sign up for a library card

You may RSVP online for the event at the Burke Museum’s website and reserve a timed ticket, but reservations are not required and all are welcome.
The Burke Museum is on the University of Washington campus at 4300 15th Ave N.E., Seattle. Street parking and UW parking lots are free of charge on Sundays. The U District light rail station is a three-minute walk from the Burke, and there are many convenient bus routes.
The Burke Museum welcomes and strongly recommends mask wearing for the protection of the most vulnerable members of our community.

ABOUT THE SUMMER OF LEARNING
Now in its 103rd year, The Seattle Public Library’s Superhero Summer of Learning offers ways for kids to read, learn, explore and grow all summer. To get in on the fun, pick up a free Superhero Summer Action Guide at any of the Library’s 27 locations (or download the guide at spl.org/SummerOfLearning). This guide is filled with superhero fun, reading lists, activities and ideas for practicing everyday superhero traits such as compassion and kindness. A shorter version of the Action Guide is available online in Amharic, Simplified Chinese, Oromo, Somali, Spanish, Tigrinya, and Vietnamese.
Kids can also set a reading goal and track their progress by picking up or downloading a Superhero Summer Activity Game Board.
The 2022 Summer of Learning is sponsored by The Seattle Public Library Foundation and was planned in partnership with The Burke Museum and South End Stories, with support from AfricaTown Center for Education and Innovation, the African-American Writers’ Alliance and the Bureau of Fearless Ideas.
