Local Translators Read From Korean Prose Anthology 'Sunset' at Montlake Branch Aug. 21

Award-winning local translators Bruce and Ju-Chan Fulton will read from their recent translation "Sunset: A Ch'ae Manshik Reader" from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21 at The Seattle Public Library, Montlake Branch, 2401 24th Ave. E., Don G. and Jane Markham Abel Meeting Room, 206-684-4720 .
Library events are free and open to the public. Registration is not required. Free parking is available in the branch parking lot and garage.
"Sunset: A Ch'ae Manshik Reader" is a collection of prose in a variety of genres by one of modern Korea's most distinct literary voices. Manshik (1902-1950) published his first story in 1924, at the age of twenty-two, and went on to publish many other works in a variety of genres. "Sunset" is the first first English-language anthology of Manshik's works and features a variety of genres - novella, short fiction, anecdotal essay, travel writing, children's story, one-act play, three-act play, and roundtable discussion. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.
The Fultons are translators of numerous volumes of modern Korean fiction. They have received several awards and fellowships for their translations, including a National Endowment for the Arts Translation Fellowship and a residency at the Banff International Literary Translation Centre. The Fultons live in the Montlake area of Seattle.
