The Washington Center for the Book at The Seattle Public Library announces the 2013 featured work:
Stories for Boys by Gregory Martin (Hawthorne Books, 2012)
"Stories for Boys" is Greg Martin's quirky, heart-wrenching memoir about coming to terms with his father's homosexuality, following a failed suicide attempt, after 39 years of marriage to Martin's mother -- all during which he was having anonymous sexual encounters with men. This is a story of family secrets and revelations, truth and reconciliation, acceptance and forgiveness, leavened by humorous stories about the author's parenting of two young sons and memories of his own happy childhood with the father he thought he knew.
"Stories for Boys" was named a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection. Greg Martin's first book "Mountain City" won the 2001 Washington State Book Award. He lived in Seattle and taught at Seattle University and North Seattle Community College. He currently teaches creative writing at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
