The Central Library’s LEAP Lab is currently open on Mondays from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. and on Wednesdays and Fridays from 12 p.m. - 6.p.m. Assistive technology continues to be available on Level 5, where there is a refreshable braille display and a CCTV magnifier. JAWS and ZoomText software are available on all Library PCs and all Library branches have Accessibility Toolkits. Refreshable braille displays are also available at the Broadview, Columbia, Southwest and University branches. Patrons who need more information about assistive technology at the Library can email leap@spl.org or leave a voicemail at 206-615-1380 to get information and assistance.

Library Equal Access Program Video

The Supervising Librarian for our Library Equal Access Program (LEAP) discusses how we support accessibility for all through programs, services and assistive technologies.

Assistive Equipment and Software

We have helpful tools available to use in your Library at no charge to make it easier for people with vision, hearing and mobility impairments to use computers.

All branches offer:

  • Screen enlarging software (ZoomText)
  • Screen magnifying software (XP Magnifier)
  • Screen reading software (JAWS)
  • An accessibility toolkit with a variety of magnifiers and writing guides to use in the Library

Some branches and the Central Library offer additional support, including ADA-accessible computers and public teletypewriters (TTY). Learn more about accessibility at your Library.

Library Equal Access Program for Kids

Our events for kids are ADA accessible, and we can make accommodations with one week notice. Contact leap@spl.org at least seven days before the event to request accommodations. We also sometimes offer ASL and Sensory Story Times.

Library Tours

American Sign Language interpreted and sight-guided tours are available with advanced scheduling. To schedule a tour, please email our LEAP lab or call 206-615-1380 (V/TTY).
