Thrilling Tales, Noon and Night: Stories at The Seattle Public Library

Need a break from the mundane? The Seattle Public Library offers "Thrilling Tales: A Story Time for Grown Ups" where you can laugh, gasp and shudder to live readings at noon and 7 p.m. on select Mondays of the month at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636.
Library programs are free and open to the public. Registration is not required. Parking is available in the Central Library garage at the regular rates. Brown bag lunches and knitting are welcome.
September's stories will include:
- 12:05 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10 – "The Edge of the Sea" by Algis Budrys. He wasn’t sure just what it was that had washed ashore, but it was his now and nothing in heaven or earth was going to take it back.
- 7 p.m. to 7:55 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17 – "The Possibility of Evil," by Shirley Jackson. Upright and exacting Miss Adela Strangeworth has always minded everyone else’s business but her own – until now.
- 12:05 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. Monday, 24 – "The Sea Raiders" by H.G. Wells. Out of the sunless depths they came, with a taste for human flesh. Also "The Wife's Story" by Ursula K. LeGuin. He was such a gentle husband and a good father – until a strange change took hold.
