The Capitol Hill Branch Of The Seattle Public Library To Reopen July 11

The Seattle Public Library will reopen the Capitol Hill Branch (425 Harvard Ave. E., Seattle) on Sunday, July 11, it announced today. The branch will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Sundays and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays.
With the reopening of the Capitol Hill Branch, 22 out of 27 Library locations are open for patrons to browse collections and check out books, use a computer or Wi-Fi, charge devices, ask for assistance or simply sit and read.

The Library has made other recent changes: All reopened locations are open at 100% capacity and do not require physical distancing, which has made it possible to reintroduce additional computer stations and seating. For now, mask requirements remain in place.
Because the Library is reintroducing self-service printing, copying and faxing, the Library’s COVID-era limited free printing of 10 pages per day will be phased out in the next few weeks. Library locations will also resume accepting cash payments for printing, copying and faxing services, as well as fees such as those for lost books (the Library never charges overdue fines).
Meeting rooms, study rooms and in-person programs are not yet available at reopened Library locations.
The Capitol Hill Branch has not been open for in-building services to patrons since March 2020, though it has accepted materials returns and provided public restroom access. Five libraries – the Fremont, Madrona-Sally Goldmark, Montlake, NewHolly and Wallingford branches – are not yet providing Library services due to staffing constraints as a result of COVID-era, citywide budget cuts. Thanks to $1.1 million in funding from the City’s Seattle Rescue Plan, the Library anticipates returning to pre-pandemic staffing levels to support the reopening of all locations and the expansion of open hours.
