Scaachi Koul in Discussion With Lindy West at The Seattle Public Library May 31

Author Scaachi Koul will discuss her new book, "One Day We'll All Be Dead and None of This Will Matter," with author Lindy West from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 31 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636 .
Library events are free and open to the public. Tickets and reservations are not required. Parking in the Central Library garage will be available for $6 after 5 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
In her new book, Koul shares fierce and funny essays about dealing with Internet trolls, addressing sexism, and growing up as a daughter of Indian immigrants. Alongside personal stories are pointed observations about life as a woman of color: where every aspect of her appearance is open for critique, derision, or outright scorn; where strict gender rules bind in both Western and Indian cultures, leaving little room for a woman not solely focused on marriage and children to have a career (and a life) for herself.
Koul was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, and is a culture writer for BuzzFeed. Her writing has also appeared in The New Yorker, The Hairpin, The Globe and Mail, and Jezebel. "One Day We'll All Be Dead and None of This Will Matter" is her first book. She lives in Toronto.
West is a columnist at The Guardian, a contributor to This American Life and a freelance writer whose work focuses on feminism, social justice, humor and body image. Her work has appeared in the New York Times, Cosmopolitan, GQ, Vulture, Jezebel, The Stranger and others. West is the founder of "I Believe You, It's Not Your Fault," an advice blog for teens, and the creator of the #ShoutYourAbortion campaign that aims to destigmatize reproductive rights. She is the recipient of the 2016 Stranger Genius Award in Literature. Her first book is "Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman."
