Sasha Polakow-Suransky Discusses 'Go Back to Where You Came From' at The Seattle Public Library Oct. 30

The Seattle Public Library presents Washington state Lieutenant Governor Cyrus Habib in conversation with Sasha Polakow-Suransky about his new book "Go Back to Where You Came From: The Backlash Against Immigration and the Fate of Western Democracy" from 7 p.m. to 8:10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636.
Library events are free and open to the public. Registration is not required. Parking is available in the Central Library garage for $6 after 5 p.m.
Polakow-Suransky will appear in conversation with Lt. Governor Habib to discuss how once marginal views on immigration have flourished to reshape the global political landscape.
"Go Back to Where You Came From" explains how bigoted views on immigration have become mainstream, and why the extreme right has grown so strong in countries that have historically been defenders of human rights and models of tolerance. Politicians have embraced xenophobia and rebranded themselves as defenders of western liberal values. By combining narrative history and on-the-ground reporting, Polakow-Suransky shows how this phenomenon has reshaped the political landscape. His books include interviews with refugees, alt-right activists, rising stars of the new right and the intellectuals who align with them.
Habib is Lieutenant Governor of Washington state. He attended Columbia University, Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar and Yale Law School where he served as editor of the Yale Law Journal.
Polakow-Suransky is an Open Society Foundations fellow. He was an op-ed editor at the New York Times and a senior editor at Foreign Affairs. He holds a doctorate in modern history from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.
