Author Theo Pauline Nestor will present "Secrets of Writing an Enduring Memoir," a workshop for writers seeking to create a personal narrative that goes beyond the surface story from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 9 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 4, Washington Mutual Foundation Meeting Room 1, 206-386-4636 .

The workshop is free and open to the public. Registration is not required. Parking is available in the Central Library's parking garage for $7.

This workshop will take attendees through prompted writing activities that are designed to help tease out a writer's deeper personal narrative. The class will also discuss the qualities of enduring memoirs, which can include: an inimitable voice, a vulnerable and complicit narrator, drama and universality.

Nestor is the author of "Writing Is My Drink: A Writer's Story of Finding Her Own Voice (And a Guide to How You Can, Too)" and "How to Sleep Alone in a King-Size Bed: A Memoir of Starting Over," which was a Kirkus Review top pick for reading groups. Nestor, who has a master's degree in creative writing from the University of Washington, produces events for writers that focus on craft, inspiration and community. She teaches at Hugo House, the University of Washington's Continuing and Professional Education department, writing retreats across the U.S. and through online webinars.

Seattle Writes supports local writers through programs, workshops, write-ins and by providing spaces to work throughout the city. The program series is made possible with the generous support of The Seattle Public Library Foundation and the Amazon Literary Partnership.
