Concerts, Previews and Performances at The Seattle Public Library in May

The Seattle Public Library will host concerts, musical preview lectures and dramatic performances at several Library locations this month. Event details with times and locations are outlined below.
Seattle Opera Preview Lecture: Aida – 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1 at the Northeast Branch, 6801 35th Ave. N.E., 206-684-7539. Join Theodore Deacon for a lecture on "Aida," Verdi's profoundly personal love story told on a grand scale.
Spilled Ink: After Hours Music & Art Celebration – 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 5 at the Ballard Branch, 5614 22nd Ave. N.W., 206-684-4089. A community celebration of fresh artwork from INK Journal, Ballard High School's arts & literature journal, will include live music, art and literature.
Ladies Musical Club – 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 6 at the West Seattle Branch, 2306 42nd Ave. S.W., 206-684-7444. This month's concert will feature piano and vocal music by Franz Liszt, Maurice Ravel, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Franz Schubert, Clara Schumann, Claude Debussy and Antonín Dvořák.
Ladies Musical Club – Noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 9 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636. This month's concert will celebrate spring with vocal works and solo piano works.
Elinor String Quartet – 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 13 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636. Celebrate Mother’s Day with a performance of Mozart’s String Quartet in G Major K.V. 387, Beethoven’s String Quartet Op.18, No.1 in F major and a Taiwanese folk tune.
The Three Feathers, One-Act Children's Opera – 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 19 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 4, Washington Mutual Foundation Meeting Room 1, 206-386-4636. Seattle Opera's touring production of this new children's opera based on the Brothers Grimm story tells the adventure of a lifetime in which a young woman discovers her hidden strengths and gains confidence.
Varied Violins: A Pop-Up Concert – 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 19 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Faye G. Allen Children’s Center, 206-386-4675. Four violinists, ages 10-16, will perform chamber music from classical and folks traditions. The songs will include violin concertos, Baroque dances, an African-American spiritual, a Jewish song of celebration and an Irish jig.
Medieval Women's Choir Preview – 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 20 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636. Eric Mentzel and the Medieval Women's Choir present samplings from their upcoming concert "Saints and Sinners," which takes a musical journey through the pantheon of medieval saints.
Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra Preview Lecture – noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 30 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636. Adam Stern, artistic director for the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra, will talk about the Philharmonic’s upcoming concert “I will never achieve this again”: Saint-Saëns’ “Organ” Symphony. Music samplings from the concert will accompany Stern's preview talk.
