Concerts, previews and performances at The Seattle Public Library in April

The Seattle Public Library will host concerts, musical preview lectures and dramatic performances at several locations throughout the city in April.

SCHEDULE

Off Road Shakespeare Company – Enjoy a performance of William Shakespeare’s "Twelfth Night," the beloved and bittersweet romantic comedy about playing pretend, telling the truth, falling in love, and finding your way.

5th Avenue Theatre - 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 1 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636. Join us for an evening with Tony Award winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty discussing their newest musical "Marie - Dancing Still." Through stories, musical performances, and Q&A with the audience, the prolific creative team will share their unique take on the craft of writing musicals, collaborating, and transporting audiences to new worlds.

Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra Preview – noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 3 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636. Adam Stern, artistic director for the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra, will talk about the Philharmonic’s upcoming concert featuring Beethoven's Seventh Symphony. Music samplings from the concert will accompany Stern's preview talk.

Ladies Musical Club – Noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636. Join us for a concert featuring piano solos by Brahms, Tchaikovsky, and Chopin as well as Mexican, South American and Jewish-Spanish songs. Malya Muth, soprano; Hilary Field, guitar; Valentina Rodov and Joan Lundquist, piano.

Ladies Musical Club – 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 14 at the West Seattle Branch, 2306 42nd Ave. S.W., 206-684-7444. Join us for a concert featuring music for voices, violin and piano.  Lin Chen, soprano and violin; Katie Hochman and Regina Thomas, soprano; Catherine Treadgold, mezzo-soprano; Joan Lundquist, piano.

The Seattle Jewish Theater Company – 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 21 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636. Experience a production of "My Name is Asher Lev," adapted by Aaron Posner from the novel by Chaim Potok. This modern classic follows a young Jewish prodigy who must make a difficult choice between art and faith, presenting a heartbreaking and triumphant vision of what it means to be an artist.

MindTravel: Live Piano and Conversation with Murray Hidary – 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 25 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636. Join renowned pianist and composer Hidary as he performs his evocative MindTravel music experience, with visual art projections, in a salon-style evening at the Central Library.

Seattle Opera Preview Lecture: Carmen – 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. April 30 at the Northeast Branch, 6801 35th Ave. N.E., 206-684-7539. Theodore Deacon presents an entertaining preview lecture of Bizet’s iconic opera about an everyday soldier’s ill-fated obsession with the ultimate femme fatale. Featuring an unrivaled procession of hit melodies, Bizet’s lavish score brims with brilliant orchestration.
