Celebrate Día (Children's Day/Book Day) with The Seattle Public Library with virtual activities in English and Spanish! Here is the lineup of events and activities:
- A visit with illustrator Rafael López: From 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Friday, April 29, join a livestream event featuring Rafael López. López is the award-winning artist and illustrator of numerous books for young people, including "Just Ask!" by Sonia Sotomayor, “Dancing Hands” by Margarita Engle, and “Book Fiesta,” by Pat Mora. Register for the livestream event on Zoom and YouTube. Elementary classrooms are especially welcome to hear Rafael López, and educators may use this resource list to prepare their students for the event.
- "Save the Library" escape room game: The Library has been locked up by the Agents of Misinformation. Young readers are invited to complete a virtual escape room – answering questions about library resources – in order to foil the Agents and reopen the Library. Once you complete the mission, stop by the South Park Branch to pick up a free book while supplies last! Access the Escape Room in English at this link. It’s also available, as “Rescate la Biblioteca,” in Spanish.

Children’s Day/Book Day, commonly known as Día, is a celebration of children, families and reading that culminates yearly on April 30. It emphasizes the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds. This nationally recognized initiative was founded in 1997 by author and poet Pat Mora.
