This year’s Book Bingo, an adult summer reading program co-presented by Seattle Arts & Lectures and The Seattle Public Library, will launch online - and a bit earlier! - making it Spring/Summer Book Bingo.

Now in its sixth year, our annual Book Bingo offers a fun way for Seattle readers to expand their reading selections. Each square on the bingo card presents a reading challenge, where you read and record a book title that fits the challenge.

This year's bingo card is designed by Susanna Ryan, the comic artist behind the book "Seattle Walk Report" and the popular Instagram account.

HOW TO PLAY

Readers will be able to download a card from www.spl.org/BookBingo or lectures.org in early May, two weeks earlier than previous years. We will have print cards available at a later date, once our libraries are open again. In the meantime, please use our enhanced online card, where each challenge square will lead you to a list of reading suggestions that fit the category. Fill in the card with titles and authors of the books you read from now until Sept. 8.

Want to get a head start? Here’s your first sneak peek at the 2020 squares: UPLIFTING. Each Thursday a new bingo square will be released on social media, with the tag #BookBingoNW2020. Librarians have prepared suggested reading lists for each bingo square, see their recommendations for Uplifting books.

HOW TO ENTER

When you’ve marked out an entire row or all 25 squares, post a photo of your completed Book Bingo card using #BookBingoNW2020 via Facebook (@SeattlePublicLibrary), Instagram (@seattleartsandlectures @SeattlePublicLibrary) or Twitter (@SeaArtsLectures @SPLBuzz). You can also mail your card to SAL, 340 15th Ave. E., Suite 301, Seattle, WA 98112. Entries must be received by 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020. This contest is for readers ages 18 and up.

TWO WAYS TO WIN

Blackout Card

Complete all 25 squares to be entered in the drawing for one of three grand prizes, including a subscription to the 2020/21 SAL series of your choice. Blackout cards will also be automatically entered in the bingo drawing (see below).

Bingo

Complete a horizontal, vertical or diagonal line to be entered into a drawing to win a gift card from one of Seattle’s independent bookstores. Winning entries will be selected at random. Prizes may be collected at the Library location of your choice.

What to read next?

For custom-crafted reading recommendations, visit a Library branch or fill out a brief form at www.spl.org/YourNext5. One of Seattle’s expert librarians will recommend a personalized list of five books.
