Activities for Seniors at The Seattle Public Library: Programs Begin Jan. 6

Learn how to use a smart phone, discover how streaming media works, and discuss books at The Seattle Public Library's events for seniors this month at locations throughout Seattle.
SCHEDULE
Smart Phone for Seniors - Noon to 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6 at the Greenwood Branch, 8016 Greenwood Ave. N., 206-684-4086. Many seniors are using smart phones for communication, fun, travel and more. Come to this class taught by library staff for resources on how to use common communication apps and how to get free library books on your phone. We will allow time for practice on your own device.
Evening Book Group - 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15 at the South Park Senior Center, 8201 10th Ave. S. Join us for a book group at the South Park Senior Center. Everyone is welcome. This month’s title is Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri. Lahiri's Pulitzer Prize-winning collection of short stories shows how love and longing play out in different countries and cultures.
Age Friendly Seattle Civic Coffee Hour - 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 4, Howard S. Wright Family & Janet W. Ketcham Meeting Room 2, 206-386-4636. Discover Library programs and services for older adults with our Older Adults Program Manager. Find out how to learn new skills, trace your family's history, use assistive software and devices to help access the Library's computers, and discover endless lifelong learning opportunities with our programs and collections. Morning Book Group - 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 at the South Park Senior Center, 8201 10th Ave. S. Join us for a book group at the South Park Senior Center. Everyone is welcome. This month’s title is The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende. An exquisitely crafted love story and multigenerational epic that sweeps from San Francisco in the present-day to Poland and the United States during the Second World War.
Library Apps for Entertainment - 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 at Senior Center of West Seattle, 4217 S.W. Oregon St. Looking for free e-books, movies, television, music and more? Come to this class taught by Library staff to learn about our free resources such Libby (books), Kanopy (thousands of classic, documentary and international films) and Hoopla (popular television and movies). We’ll help you sign up for a library card if you need one. Registration is required; call the Senior Center of West Seattle at 206-932-4044 to sign up.
Intro to Streaming Media - 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 at Senior Center of West Seattle, 4217 S.W. Oregon St. Does it seem like the options for streaming media have doubled overnight? Learn the basics of streaming video to supplement or replace your cable TV service at a class taught by Library staff. Registration is required; call the Senior Center of West Seattle at 206-932-4044 to sign up.
