2018 Washington State Book Awards at The Seattle Public Library Oct. 13

The Washington Center for the Book, a partnership of The Seattle Public Library and Washington State Library, will announce the winners in eight categories for the 2018 Washington State Book Awards at a ceremony from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636.
Library events are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required.
All finalists will be honored and one winner for each category will be announced at the awards ceremony hosted by poet and novelist Karen Finneyfrock.
A special award, the "Washington Voices Award," will be given to Tod Marshall and the poets in WA 129, a collection of 129 poems by Washington poets published by Sage Hill Press in Spokane, in recognition of its significance in the literary landscape of Washington. Marshall worked on this collection during his time as Washington State Poet Laureate. Washington poets in the work include Quenton Baker, Claudia Castro Luna, Kathleen Flenniken, Tess Gallagher, Rebecca Hoogs, Priscilla Long, Shin Yu Pai, Katrina Roberts, Tom Robbins, Katharine Whitcomb and 120 others. In addition to the print anthology, free digital copies of WA 129+ chapbooks were made available online with hundreds more poems about the Evergreen state.

The 2018 Book Awards are awarded for outstanding books published by Washington authors in 2017. These book awards are given based on the strength of a book's literary merit, lasting importance and overall quality. To be considered, authors must have been born in Washington state or be a current resident and have maintained residence here for at least three years.
