The Seattle Public Library launches 'Welcome Pages' in four languages on Web site at www.spl.org
The Seattle Public Library announces the launch of "World Languages Welcome Pages" in four languages on the Library's Web site at www.spl.org.
Web pages in Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese and Russian provide introductions to Library programs and services in those languages. See below for a list of links to each welcome page:
- Spanish Welcome Page
Spanish Programs Page (This page lists upcoming Library programs for Spanish speakers. The Library's goal is to add similar programs pages for the other three languages in coming months.)
"We are thrilled to welcome Library patrons on the Web in their own languages, just as we offer books, media and programs in those languages," said Yazmin Mehdi, deputy director of The Seattle Public Library Foundation, in charge of Community Programs and Activities.
"The launch of these pages is part of the Library's increased efforts to reach Seattle's cultural communities and make Library services more accessible to them."
The Library chose to initiate its World Languages Welcome Pages with these four languages because census data from 2000 shows that these are among the most frequently spoken languages other than English in Seattle-area homes.
