The Seattle Public Library completes patron survey
More than 30,000 residents shared their thoughts and opinions about services at The Seattle Public Library through a community survey the Library offered as part of its strategic planning process.
In the 29-question survey, people were asked everything from what resources they valued most to what times they preferred to attend Library programs. The survey was available online and in paper format May 3-May 16. Results will be available later this summer.
"We are thrilled with the high level of participation," said City Librarian Susan Hildreth. "There is a reason why Seattle consistently gets rated the most literate city in the nation."
Hildreth said the survey was an important part of the process in developing the Library's strategic plan, which will provide a blueprint for the next five to 10 years for the Library.
"We want to make sure we continue providing the resources and programs that meet the needs and expectations of our users now and in the future," Hildreth said.
The Library launched its strategic planning effort in early March with five Citywide Conversations designed to encourage people to "think big" about future Library services and the Library's role in the community. The project, using the theme, "My Library: The Next Generation," is made possible by a grant from The Seattle Public Library Foundation.
The Library will explore customer service in a panel discussion titled "The User Experience in the 21st Century Library" at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 4, Room 1. Earlier this month the Library presented a panel discussion titled "Technology and Its Impact on the Future of Libraries."
