Open Mics and Poetry Readings at The Seattle Public Library in December
The Seattle Public Library will offer open mics and poetry readings at several Library locations in December. Event details with times and locations are outlined below.
John Freeman and Natalie Diaz - 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636. Listen to poetry readings from John Freeman, literary editor and poet, and Natalie Diaz, Mojave poet and former professional athlete, alongside a discussion of inequality and invisibility. (This event was rescheduled from October.)
PoetsWest - 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Green Lake Branch, 7364 E. Green Lake Dr. N., 206-684-7547. A monthly open mic that takes place on the second Saturday of each month, featuring readings of poetry and prose. This month's featured poets are David Horowitz and Cat Kigeral.
Writers Read - 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10 at the Columbia Branch, 4721 Rainier Ave. S., 206-386-1908. A monthly open mic with selected author readings on the second Sunday of each month, presented in partnership with African-American Writers' Alliance.
It's About Time Writers' Reading Series - 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14 at the Ballard Branch, 5614 22nd Ave. N.W., 206-684-4089. A monthly series featuring author readings and open mics. This month's presentation will feature some of the 2017 Jack Straw Writers: Calvin Gimpelevich, afrose fatima ahmed and Hera McLeod. Wancy Young Cho will give a short lecture on the writer's craft.
Poetry 'Potluck' - 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21 at the Ballard Branch, 5614 22nd Ave. N.W., 206-684-4089. An informal monthly gathering for listening to and reading poetry aloud. Bring a few of your favorite poems to share with others. This is a feast of poetry, not a food event.
