logo for community conversations

Help shape the future of The Seattle Public Library by sharing your ideas with Seattle's Executive Director and Chief Librarian Marcellus Turner from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Rainier Beach Branch, 9125 Rainier Ave. S., 206-386-1906.

Library events are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required. Light refreshments will be provided. Parking is available in the Rainier Beach Branch parking lot.

This event provides an opportunity to:

  • Tell the chief librarian how the Library can better serve you and your neighborhood
  • Learn about innovative programs and services
  • Understand how the Library's Strategic Direction supports the needs of the community

"The Rainier Beach Branch is an important community resource hosting supportive programs like after school Homework Help, adult education tutoring, Somali story times, tech help and more," said Chief Librarian Marcellus Turner.

"We are able to take our resources even further with the help of community partnerships. We've developed 'Ready to Work' job and computer skills classes for English language learners with the help of Literacy Source and the Seattle Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs," Turner said. "I look forward to hearing from patrons what other ways they would like to see the Library support the Rainier Beach neighborhood."

The Library's Strategic Direction is guiding Library service planning and decision-making through the completion of its public levy-funded work plan, which ends in 2019.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE

  • 2 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.: Introduction and overview presentation by Turner
  • 2:30 p.m. - 3 p.m.: Audience Q&A
