Learn a new language at home or on-the-go

Without leaving your computer, you can learn another language or get help with English. Check out the Library's language-learning resources!

 

In the Library Catalog

  • Pimsleur series - CDs covering 31 languages. Using a series of 30-minute lessons, the Pimsleur method interweaves new and old material, focuses on the most common words in a language, and limits the amount of new material to bite-size portions.

 

  • Overdrive e-Audio - Choose from more than 200 digital audiobooks on language self-instruction. Download and play the books on a portable media device or computer.

  • Mango Languages(Opens a new window) - Covers over 20 languages and offers English as a Second Language (ESL) help in 14 languages. Using a conversational focus, the material drawn from native conversations is split into small, bite-size pieces designed to have the learner speaking a new language right after the first lesson.

 

  • Transparent Language Online(Opens a new window) - Take lessons in more than 80 languages, or get English as a second language (ESL) assistance for Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese and Spanish speakers.  Transparent Language features pronunciation analysis, grammar reference tools and uses flash card exercises.

 

  • Muzzy Online(Opens a new window) - Eight languages for kids to learn! Developed by the BBC, Muzzy's "see and say, listen and learn" methods pattern the way children learn their first language.

 

  • LiveMocha(Opens a new window) - Learn a language with the largest online language-learning community, offering courses in over 38 languages to more than 9 million subscribers. Interact with language learners in 135 countries.
