The Central Library interactive exhibit

Central Library Interactive Visitor Center

This interactive exhibit is located on Level 1 across from the elevators next to the Fourth Avenue entrance.

The exhibit offers a mix of material created specifically for this exhibit, including items from our special collections, StoryCorps interviews, and content from the Library's Twitter and Instagram feeds. The exhibit has two stations: LOOK and LEARN.

The LOOK station is a quick introduction to the Library. The video screen presents animated fun facts, Library Twitter and Instagram feeds, and literary and library quotes.

The LEARN station has two touchscreens and is organized into four categories:

  • Place gives context to the early history of Seattle and our region, our culture of innovation, creativity, and our support of literacy and our libraries.
  • Building tells the story of the Central Library: from the original Carnegie library to the 1960s Bindon and Wright library building, and now, the OMA-LMN designed Central Library building.
  • People presents a selection of StoryCorps interviews recorded in 2014 and highlights our Library Foundation, the Friends of the Library, and our volunteers.
  • Experience showcases activities that people enjoy at The Seattle Public Library.
