Memorandum

To: Seattle Public Library Board of Trustees
Date: July 20, 1999
From: Alex Harris, Capital Program Director
Re: Tree Conservation

City Librarian Deborah Jacobs and the Capital Program Office have been approached by interested City staff and advocates of tree conservation to consider our approach to managing tree resources on Library sites affected by Libraries for All projects. The attached draft policy is provided for your discussion and consideration. We have worked with the Mayor's Office, Seattle Public Utility, and the Law Department to draft an approach that would establish the value of significant trees on Library sites, while allowing us to weigh this value in a context of other design and functional demands of the projects. We have also attached a referenced section from the City's Comprehensive Plan to place our consideration of this policy in the context of broader City goals. We welcome your comments on this draft.

Tree Policy Resolution
