SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION expressing the Seattle Public Library Board of Trustees' intent and outlining policies for the disposition of Library properties.

WHEREAS, RCW 27.12.210 states that Library Board of Trustees (the "Board") has the supervision, care, and custody of all property of the library, including the rooms or buildings constructed, leased, or set apart therefore; and

WHEREAS, Seattle City Council Ordinance 119378 authorized the Board to enter into contracts and carry out Libraries for All project elements within stated budgetary constraints and applicable state and local law; and

WHEREAS, the Libraries for All capital program depends on revenue from the sale of branch library sites that are being replaced, as recognized in Seattle City Council Resolution 29846; and

WHEREAS, the Board intends to sell at least three (3) Library properties during the implementation of the Libraries for All capital program, including the Ballard, Beacon Hill, and Greenwood branch libraries; and

WHEREAS, the Board seeks to maximize revenue from the sale of those branch library sites;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES:

  1. The Board shall assume responsibility for the disposition of Library properties, including the sites of the Ballard, Beacon Hill, and Greenwood branch libraries.
  2. To obtain a minimum of $2 million Libraries for All revenue targeted from site sales, the Board shall secure the highest possible price for each of the properties being marketed. The Board shall determine the form of any deeds.
  3. 3. The funds from the disposition of such properties, when received, shall be deposited in an account within the fund structure established for the Libraries for All program.
