Milestones

  • April 2007: The Seattle City Council on April 23 approved the recommendation of The Seattle Public Library board of trustees to not proceed with a branch in Sand Point.
  • December 2006: The Library Board voted at its Dec. 20 meeting to recommend to the Seattle City Council to not proceed with building a branch library in Sand Point. Prior to the board meeting, the Citizen Implementation Review Panel (CIRP) voted 11-1 to support the board's intended recommendation to the City Council.
  • March 2006: Residents attended a public meeting to discuss possible locations for a new branch library in Sand Point.
  • October 2000: The City Council through Resolution 30254 voted to set aside $1.42 million of the $6 million Opportunity Fund for a library in Sand Point.
  • September 2000: The Library Board voted to accept a recommendation by the CIRP to use Opportunity Fund money for a library in Sand Point. The $1.42 million budget was based on reusing an existing building.
  • August 2000: CIRP recommended the Library Board reserve $1.4 million of the $6 million Opportunity Fund for a library in Sand Point. CIRP evaluated 10 proposals for funding.
  • May 2000: Citizens for a Library at Sand Point proposed using a portion of the Opportunity Fund to establish a full-service library in Sand Point.
  • November 1998: Seattle voters approved the $196.4 million "Libraries for All" bond measure to rebuild The Seattle Public Library system. The measure included a $6 million Opportunity Fund to be used for new or unanticipated neighborhood library capital needs for underserved areas of Seattle.
