Lake City Library designated as landmark

The Landmarks Preservation Board unanimously voted to designate the Lake City Library as a landmark building on June 6, 2001. The designation means the Library will submit its plans to expand the Lake City Library to the landmarks board for its approval.

Landmark consideration is part of the public review process of structures that are important to the life and heritage of the city. Libraries fall under this review process. Buildings and structures more than 25 years old are eligible for Seattle landmark nomination. The landmarks board evaluates buildings before they are altered or demolished.

By evaluating our buildings now, we avoid any disruption to the building process later.

For more information about the Library’s building program, call the Library’s capital program office, (206) 386-4624. For more information about the landmarks board, call Beth Chave, board coordinator, at (206) 684-0380.
