Douglass-Truth Branch Design ImagesSchacht/Aslani Architects is designing the expansion to The Seattle Public Library's Douglass-Truth Branch, 2300 E. Yesler Way. Design UpdateThe Seattle Public Library board of trustees decided at its meeting on Feb. 24, 2004, to use copper on the exterior of the east wall and the roof of the addition to the Douglass-Truth Branch. The Library Board chose copper shingles instead of the standing seam sheet metal proposed for the exterior surfaces because copper will weather nicely and will complement the historic branch, which opened in 1914. Design DevelopmentSchacht/Aslani Architects developed these images during the latest stage of design, called "design development." By the end of design development, the architects have finalized the design of the building, including how the library will be laid out and what materials will be used to build it. Schematic DesignSchacht/Aslani Architects developed these images during the first stage of design, called "schematic design." By the end of schematic design, the architects have established the basic building layout and its electrical, mechanical and structural system needs. The design, including the colors and building materials, will evolve during the next phase of work, called "design development." Click on any image below to see a larger view.
