Architect Project Site Tours May 19-23, 1999

The Architect Selection Advisory Panel, reviewing architects for the new Central Library, recommends that the Library Board further consider Steven Holl Architects and Office for Metropolitan Architecture for design of the library. The Panel suggests that Library Board members visit buildings of comparable scale by each and assess examples from other projects as follows:

* the design characteristics of the buildings visited
* the working relationship with local affiliate architects
* client and public involvement for projects
* experience of contractors and others involved with the projects

In conjunction with this recommendation, the Seattle Public Library Board of Trustees will conduct site visits to the following locations from May 19-23, 1999: Helsinki, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Lille. Architect projects they will visit include, but are not limited to Kiasma Contemporary Museum of Art, the Educatorium and Kunsthall. No decisions will be made by the Library Board during their visit.

The Library Board will make a decision at a special meeting on the selection of an architect for a new downtown library on Wednesday, May 26, 1999 at 4:00 p.m., at the Central Library Lee Auditorium, 1000 4th Avenue, Seattle, WA.
