Queen Anne Library

Needs and Opportunities:

This classic Carnegie library was designed by W. Marbury Somervell and Harlan Thomas and opened in 1914. It was upgraded in 1987 at a cost of $591,767. It requires air conditioning, electrical service improvements, sound proofing, and a reorganization of some interior spaces.

Recommendations:

Improve the existing building to provide:

  • New seating

  • Expanded book collection

  • Air conditioning

  • Upgraded technology services and equipment

  • More electrical, communications and computer connections

  • More efficient circulation desk and work areas

  • Better acoustics

  • Expanded service at 60 hours per week

Estimated capital costs: $482,000

Next Steps: Assuming passage of the capital bonds, the community will be invited to participate in design and service development discussions for Queen Anne Library improvements to be completed in 2006.
