Broadview
Library
Needs and Opportunities:
Although Broadview is relatively new and has received
$112,200 in repairs and upgrades since 1988, it is
showing wear and can no longer handle a growing
patronage. The library is difficult to find from the street,
and its interior is poorly lit, noisy, and lacks adequate
electrical service for computers. Growing use by
children is creating competition for space with the
library's traditional population of older adult readers.
Recommendations:
Renovate and expand existing building by 6,595 square feet to provide:
Estimated capital costs: $3,522,000
Next Steps: Assuming approval of capital
bonds, the community will be invited to
participate in design and service
development discussions for an expanded
Broadview Library to open in 2006.

Broadview at a Glance:
Address: 12755 Greenwood Ave. N., 98133 Service profile: The library attracts heavy patronage from K- 12 and community college students. It is a popular retreat for many older adult readers. Thanks to an influx of younger families into the Broadview neighborhood, the library is serving more and more children and younger students. Its meeting room serves a large number of community meetings and discussion groups. |
