PREQUALIFIED BIDDERS: These projects went through a pre-qualification process. The following General Contractors have been approved to bid on these projects:

PROJECT DESCRIPTION for Montlake Branch: Demolition of three single-family residences, construction of a 3,100-square-foot partial basement garage and a 3,100-square-foot library with additional 950 square feet of office and 1,000 square feet of meeting room and restrooms. The project is located on a sloped site and includes a storm and surface water detention system.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION for Southwest Branch: Partial demolition of the existing 8,213-square-foot building, renovation of the remaining portion of the existing building and an addition of a two-story expansion, resulting in a 15,000-square-foot building. This project also includes installation of a hydraulic passenger elevator and an access flooring system.

ESTIMATE: The estimated value of work for these contracts is currently between $2.1 million and $2.55 million for the Montlake Branch project, and between $3.66 million and $3.84 million for the Southwest Branch project.

BID SUBMITTAL for Montlake Branch: The Seattle Public Library will receive sealed bids from qualified general contractors ONLY until 2 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2005, in the Howard S. Wright Family & Janet W. Ketcham Meeting Room (Conference Room 2/Meeting Room 414) on Level Four of the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Seattle, WA 98104. Bids hand delivered will be logged in starting at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2005. Bids delivered before 1:30 p.m. shall go to the Capital Program Office, Attn: Justine Kim, at the Central Library, 11th floor. BIDS RECEIVED AFTER 2 P.M. WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

BID GUARANTY: No bid will be considered unless accompanied by a certified or bank cashier’s check, or by a bid bond from a state-licensed surety company in an amount of not less than five percent (5%) of the Base Bid including sales tax and Additives, made payable to THE SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY, Seattle, Washington.

BID ENVELOPE: Bid, Bid Bond and other enclosures shall be enclosed in an opaque, sealed envelope bearing the name and address of the Bidder and addressed to the Owner. Mark lower left corner of the envelope “Montlake Branch Bid” or “Southwest Branch Bid.”

PRE-BID SITE INSPECTION for Montlake: A pre-bid site inspection will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2005, at the project site (2234 E. McGraw St.). The architect will be available at that time to review the project requirements. Attendance at this walk-through is NOT mandatory.

PRE-BID SITE INSPECTION for Southwest: A pre-bid site inspection will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2005, at the Southwest Branch, 9010 35th Ave. S.W., Seattle. The architect will be available at that time to review the project requirements. Attendance at this walk-through is NOT mandatory.

A deposit check made payable to THE SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY for the amount of $50 is required for each set. Partial sets are not available. The full amount of the deposit will be refunded to the bidders on return of the bid documents in unmarked and non-mutilated condition to United Reprographics within four weeks after the bids are due. Bid documents may also be examined at local plan centers.

No bidder may withdraw its bid after the hour set for the opening thereof, unless and until the award of contract has been delayed for a period of sixty (60) days.
