The Seattle Public Library invites community members to share their "hopes and dreams" for the expanded Lake City Library from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29 at Olympic Hills Elementary School, 13018 20th Ave. N.E., lunchroom. For more information, call Douglas Bailey, Library project manager, at (206) 386-4173.
The meeting will give residents an opportunity to describe their vision for the new spaces within the library, and discuss preferences in services, collections, programs and artwork. Members of the Seattle Public Library board of trustees and the Library's Capital Program Office, City Librarian Deborah L. Jacobs, and designers from ARC Architects will be present to hear from residents and to answer questions about the project.
The $2.9 million expansion project, which will add nearly 6,000 square feet to the library, will feature a meeting room, an updated collection, enhanced study areas, and upgraded technology. The expanded library will be part of a municipal center that also includes a neighborhood service center, a community center, the Albert Davis Park and a parking garage.
The current library was built in 1965 and is 9,013 square feet. The expanded library will be 15,000 square feet.
The expansion is part of the $196.4 million "Libraries for All" bond measure that Seattle voters passed in 1998. The plan calls for improving or replacing all 22 branch libraries, building five new branches and building a new central library.
