THE SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY SEEKS PREQUALIFIED CONTRACTORS FOR THE BROADVIEW BRANCH EXPANSION PROJECT

The Seattle Public Library has invited prequalified general contractors to submit bids to expand the Broadview Branch. Bids are due at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 25.

For more information contact Brad Miller, Miller Hayashi Architects, 118 N. 35th St., Suite 200, Seattle, WA 98103, (206) 634-0177.

The Library believes that prequalified contractors will be encouraged to submit competitive bids for the projects because they will know they are competing against firms that the Library has evaluated as being able to complete the work.

A pre-bid site inspection will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 4 at the Broadview Branch at 12755 Greenwood Ave. N. The architects and Library officials will be present to review project requirements.

The estimated construction cost is about $4 million. The overall project budget is $7,050,250, which includes the Library Board-approved addition in January 2006 of $2,722,300 to fund construction and associated costs.

Miller Hayashi Architects designed the expansion to the existing 8,405-square-foot building, which will grow to 15,000 square feet. The larger building will feature an updated collection of books and materials, more seating and computers, improved lighting, more energy-efficient windows, a larger meeting room and an improved interior layout.
