American Sign Language Interpreters

LEAP staff provides services in American Sign Language.


Arrangements can be made (with two weeks notice) for sign-language interpreters for Library-sponsored classes, tours, events and programs. Schedule an interpreter through the LEAP coordinator: e-mail leap@spl.org or call 206-386-4690 (v/tty) or use Sprint Relay Online.(Opens a new window)


Finding Materials On Hearing Loss

The Library has many books, CDs, and DVDs about the deaf community and the cultural and history of deaf people, including the following



Closed-Caption Programs on DVD or Video (VCR)

Many of the Library's DVDs and videos (VCR format) are available with closed captions - captions appearing on the screen that transcribe the dialogue and relevant background sounds into text.

Receiving Notices by Telephone or E-mail

The Library can notify you by telephone or e-mail when materials are overdue or items on hold are available for pick-up. To arrange to receive notices, contact your branch library or Borrower Services at 206-386-4190 or e-mail Ask a Librarian.
