Finding Adaptive Equipment at the Library

What types of adaptive equipment can I find at the Library?

Patrons with sight or hearing impairments may use the following:


XP Magnifier software on computers at all Library locations. To use Magnifier:

  • "Select the "Magnify" icon at the top of the web browser
  • Or select "Screen Magnification" from the main Library Online menu.

A variety of equipment is available in the Central Library through the Library Equal Access Program (LEAP), including:


  • Computers with JAWS Screen Reader
  • Duxbury Braille Translation Program
  • PowerBraille/65 Character Refreshable Braille Display System
  • XP Magnifier software
  • ZoomText Screen Enlargement
  • Closed-Circuit Television magnifiers (CCTV)
  • Kurzweil Reading Edge*
  • Kurzweil 1000 Reading System
  • Versapoint Duo Braille Embossers (Printers)
  • APH tape player
  • Handheld and desktop magnifiers
  • D-Link Videophone - allows visitors to use sign language to communicate with local agencies, videophone relay operators, friends and family

TTY-accessible phones are available at the Central Library on Levels 1 and 3 near the public telephones and patrons can also use the following TTY to contact Library staff:
