Library Closed Monday, May 29

All locations of The Seattle Public Library and the book drops at the Central Library will be closed on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29.


Service interruption in the Library's Online Catalog – May 28 and May 29

The Library will be performing maintenance on our catalog starting at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 28 - 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 29. During this time, you will be able to search the Bibliocommons catalog, but will not be able to log in, place holds, renew items or use other catalog features. The former Library catalog (Horizon Information Portal), SPL Mobile, access to e-books, free music downloads and many databases and applications also will be unavailable.

Access for All: Accessibility Kits & Assistive Software

Accessibility Kits and Accessibility Software are available to assist our low vision and blind patrons at all Library locations.


Accessibility Kits

The kits have a variety tools to assist our low vision patrons. The kits contain:

  • Large Type Keyboard (at a designated computer)
  • Low Vision Note Writing Frame
  • Low Vision Signature Guide
  • Low Vision Writing Tablet
  • Thick Pen (20/20 marker)
  • Reizen Dome Magnifier
  • Bar Magnifier
  • Magnifying Sheet

Accessibility Technology

All of the Library's public internet computers have assistive software:

ZoomText - a text-enlargement software program for low vision patrons

JAWS - screen reading software to assist blind users

The Safeco Insurance Fund's "Access for All" Inclusion Grant and The Seattle Public Library Foundation supported the purchase of this hardware and software to enable equitable access to Library print materials, computer technology and other online resources.
