Our Teen Services librarians offer service learning volunteer opportunities for high school students to experience the power of youth voice and make a positive impact in their communities.
Teen Service Learning is a great way for you to help your community, develop skills for jobs and college, and earn community service hours for school. You will learn about real world issues and provide service projects with other teens.
Service learning is available to high school students who are at least 14 years old and live in Seattle. Volunteering at the Library can help you:
- Develop important skills for school, jobs and life, such as critical thinking, problem solving, communication and working with others.
- Earn community service hours to complete high school requirements.
- Gain leadership and project management skills. This volunteer experience can be included on your college and job applications.
- Get to know great people and hang out with friends!

How to sign up:
Contact the Teen Services librarian at your local library to request a volunteer application and a meeting to discuss your service learning interests. After your meeting, the librarian will invite you to a volunteer orientation.
Because it may not be possible to complete 60 hours of volunteer service at the Library, we suggest that teens provide volunteer services for at least two organizations during high school. Check out these websites for information about volunteer and internship opportunities for teens:
You are welcome to contact our Volunteer Services Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or leave a message at 206-386-4664.
