Seattle P-I card index now available on microfilm at The Seattle Public Library

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer's printed card index is now available on microfilm at The Seattle Public Library, Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 10, Hugh and Jane Ferguson Seattle Room.

When the print version of the Seattle P-I went digital-only in 2009, the Library received the newspaper's card index referencing local and international news in its original paper format. The card index was originally used by P-I journalists to reference past articles.

The card index is arranged by subject and includes P-I content from approximately 1926 to 1999. Researchers may now compare the P-I's perspective on history with coverage by The Seattle Times.

"We were excited to make this valuable historical resource easier to use," said Jodee Fenton, manager for special collections.

Patrons can access the card index on microfilm during open hours for the Central Library's Hugh and Jane Ferguson Seattle Room on Level 10. Hours are outlined below.

  • 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday
  • Closed Friday
  • 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
