All locations of The Seattle Public Library and the book drops at the Central Library will be closed on Christmas Eve, Sunday, Dec. 24 and Christmas Day, Monday, Dec. 25.

The Seattle Public Library Presents 'Legendary Children': An Evening Of LGBTQ Ball Culture at Seattle Art Museum Aug. 14

The Seattle Public Library will host a free evening of film, dancing, runways, and literature entitled "Legendary Children: 'Paris Is Burning' & Beyond" from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14 at the Seattle Art Museum (SAM), 1300 1st Ave.

 

Library programs are free and open to the public. Reservations are required, click here for free tickets. This event is intended for adult audiences.

 

Attendees can explore LGTBQ ball culture by walking the runway, visiting the Vogue 101 and make-up stations, dancing to music from local underground DJs, posing for the photobooth, watching the documentary "Paris Is Burning" and joining the community discussion. Librarians will be on hand to recommend and check out films, books and more that explore the LGTBQ ballroom community. Performances by local artists will include Dani Tirrell, Atasha Manila, okanomodé, Amora Dior Black and Diamond St. James.

 

Legendary Children is a community-driven program organized by Seattle's TQPOC (Trans, Queer People of Color) communities. The event will be co-hosted by Collective of Genius, Emerald City Gay Pride, Nubian Pride, Seattle Art Museum, University of Washington / Fred Hutch Center for AIDS Research, and the Center for MultiCultural Health.
